Broke Ever After...

Hello Everyone!

I’m back! So sorry to have left you all hanging like that! Unfortunately, I was suffering from a bit of temporary insanity brought on by my wedding; but all of that craziness is over now! Now that I am a newlywed who is in the process of moving to a new town, I’ve got more things than ever to share!

Tiny tidbit of the day!
I am using my recently shredded documents as cushioning for my moving boxes! Ingenious, yes? Does anyone else have any thrifty moving tips? Do share!

This is scary! 06/15/2011

I just saw this and wanted to share it! It's from Mint.com and it's called "Not maid of Money: The high cost of being a Bride$maid." I love when Mint puts out the highly stylistic info-graphics. Check it out!

I'm actually proud to say I'm trying to be as cost-conscious for my bridal party as possible. What are you doing (did you do) to save money for your wedding and bridal party? Share!

Hey Everyone! I just realized that I never really introduced myself! Here is a tiny bio:

Name: Laura
Age: 26
Location: NYC
Interests: Shopping, getting an amazing deal, music, movies, food (preparing and eating it), cat wrangling, playing Plants vs. Zombies, being lazy and loving on her future husband.

hmmmm, lets see....

I'm getting married on August 27th, 2011 On Long Island. I have an A.A. in Liberal Arts, and I'm on hiatus from a B.A. in Geology/Earth System Science. My future husband, Edmund, is an awesome content and copy-writer and has his own website! Check him out at Converting Content, if you're interested in his services, I can vouch for his awesomeness. I have four cats (not by choice): Darla, Lena, Scout and Cupcake. I love them a lot. Did you want a cat? Oh that's perfect I've got four to choose from, just let me know, lol... no, I'm serious....

This website is an experiment but I really have confidence in it. I hope you guys love it as much as I do. Don't hesitate to send me comments or suggestions either at BrokeEverAfter@gmail.com or at the contact us link at the top of the page.

Have a great weekend from everyone here at Broke Ever After...
(that would be me, Ed and the four cats)

Saving money is one of the toughest problems that most newlyweds will face.  While The Beatles may have said that “All you need is love”, most people quickly realize that money is equally as important.  One easy way to save money on products and services that you regularly purchase is by joining rewards programs.  Many companies will offer rewards programs that allow customers to either save money every time they use the card or earn points towards free stuff.  Joining these programs can be a great way to save money on groceries, toiletries and other common expenses.

I just heard the most awesome thing ever while listening to Pandora! Apparently Hallmark is rolling out new “Postage-Paid Greetings”!!! This is incredibly helpful for anyone (like me) who has a problem with procrastination. For every step between go-out-and-buy and send, that’s at least another two days of me not doing whatever I’m supposed to be doing. But now you can just walk into a participating Hallmark store, pick out a postage-paid greeting card, sign, address, lick and drop in the nearest mailbox!

This makes my life so much easier; you laugh but it’s true. I think I’ve only purchased stamps twice in my life so far. The line at my local post office here in Queens is usually out the door, all the time and I have little-to-no patience. I know, I can get them at my local supermarket, but I never remember to get them while I’m there. I usually forget half of the things I went there specifically for, now I’m supposed to remember to get stamps as well, yeah, not so much. So I say check out these new cards! Father’s Day is right around the corner so you have an excuse to run down to the card store and check them out! I’ll include a link with a store locator at the bottom of the post. And while you’re at the Hallmark store, don’t forget to see if they have any of last year’s Star Trek Christmas ornaments on clearance, they’re the best. I bought Ed the “trouble with Tribbles” talking one a few years ago and…oh, yeah, sorry. Well, enjoy!

In today’s financial (and seasonal) climate, it’s only natural to want to find ways to save money anyway you can. One of the most common questions asked by anyone who owns or rents their home is “how can I save money on my electric bill?” We’ve done some research for you here at Bea, and we’ve found some tips that are super easy to implement at home now to help you save money on your electric bill.

I'm going to dedicate at least one post a week to advice from my mother, Heidi. I think it's only right to get some feedback from someone as wise and experienced (and often unintentionally hilarious) as she is.

Anyway, Heidi's first pearl of wisdom is this:
